Morning Prayer - Dietrich Bonhoeffer

MORNING PRAYER

O God, early in the morning I cry to you.
Help me to pray
And to concentrate my thoughts on you:
I cannot do this alone.
In me there is darkness,
But with you there is light;
I am lonely, but you do not leave me;
I am feeble in heart, but with you there is help;
I am restless, but with you there is peace.
In me there is bitterness, but with you there is patience;
I do not understand your ways,
But you know the way for me…
Restore me to liberty,
And enable me to live now
That I may answer before you and before me.
Lord, whatever this day may bring,
Your name be praised.

The Gospel Prayer by J. D. Greear

The Gospel prayer is from the outstanding book,Gospel, by J.D. Greear.I posted this prayer a few months ago, but I am currently using Pastor Greear's book for my morning devotional. I am participating in, The Gospel Project, which is reading through the four Gospels in the forty day reading plan in his book. And praying the Gospel Prayer daily.

"In Christ, there is nothing I can do
that would make You love me more,and nothing
I have done that makes You love me less."

"Your presence and approval are all
I need for everlasting joy."

"As you have been to me,so I will be to others."

"As I pray, I'll measure Your compassion by the cross
and Your power by the resurrection."

A Morning Prayer - Syrian Clementine Liturgy

A Morning Prayer

O God, Who are the unsearchable abyss of peace, the ineffable sea of love, the fountain of blessings, and the bestower of affection, Who sends peace to those that receive it; open to us this day the sea of Your love, and water us with the plenteous streams from the riches of Your grace. Make us children of quietness, and heirs of peace. Kindle in us the fire of Your love; sow in us Your fear; strengthen our weakness by Your power; bind us closely to You and to each other in one firm bond of unity; for the sakd of Jesus Christ. AMEN.

John Stott's Morning Trinitarian Prayer

(This prayer was taken from Trevin Wax Kingdom People blog.)

Good morning heavenly Father,
good morning Lord Jesus,
good morning Holy Spirit.

Heavenly Father, I worship you as the creator and sustainer of the universe.
Lord Jesus, I worship you, Savior and Lord of the world.
Holy Spirit, I worship you, sanctifier of the people of God.

Glory to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.

Heavenly Father, I pray that I may live this day in your presence
and please you more and more.

Lord Jesus, I pray that this day I may take up my cross and follow you.

Holy Spirit, I pray that this day you will fill me with yourself and cause your fruit to ripen in my life:
love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

Holy, blessed and glorious Trinity, three persons in one God,
have mercy upon me. Amen.

Prayers of Martin Luther

Luther's Morning Prayer

My Heavenly Father, I thank You, through Jesus Christ, Your beloved
Son, that You kept me safe from all evil and danger last night. Save me,
I pray, today as well, from every evil and sin, so that all I do and the way
that I live will please you. I put myself in your care, body and soul and all
that I have. Let Your holy Angels be with me, so that the evil enemy will
not gain power over me. Amen

Luther's Evening Prayer

My Heavenly Father, I thank You, through Jesus Christ, Your beloved Son, that You have
protected me, by Your grace. Forgive, I pray, all my sins and the evil I have done. Protect me, by
Your grace, tonight. I put myself in your care, body and soul and all that I have. Let Your holy
angels be with me, so that the evil enemy will not gain power over me. Amen.

Luther’s Sacristy Prayer

Lord God, You have appointed me as a pastor in Your Church, but you see how unsuited I am to
meet so great and difficult a task. If I had lacked Your help, I would have ruined everything long
ago. Therefore, I call upon You: I wish to devote my mouth and my heart to you; I shall teach the
people. I myself will learn and ponder diligently upon You Word. Use me as Your instrument -- but
do not forsake me, for if ever I should be on my own, I would easily wreck it all.

Luther’s recommendations for using Bible verses as prayers

Psalm 25 – a general prayer to submit to God in all things
Psalm 67 – to be prayed for the increase of faith
Psalm 20 – for good government and for earthly authorities
Psalm 103 – for thanking God for all his goodness to us
Titus – to give instruction or living and life

Lord keep us steadfast in thy word(from Erhalt uns, bei deinem Wort)

Lord, keep us steadfast in your word;
curb those who by deceit or sword
would wrest the kingdom from your Son
and bring to nothing all he's done.
Lord Jesus Christ, your power make known,
for you are Lord of lords alone;
defend your holy church, that we
may sing your praise eternally.
O Comforter of priceless worth,
grant one mind to your flock on earth
support us in our final strife,
and lead us out of death to life.

Song of Praise(from Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland)

Praise to God the Father sing,
praise to God the Son, our king,
praise to God the Spirit be
now and through eternity.
