Spiritual Warfare Prayer: The Valley Of Vision

" O God of my exodus, Great was the joy of Israel’s sons when Egypt died upon the shore, Far greater the joy when the Redeemer’s foe lay crushed in the dust! Jesus strides forth as the victor, conqueror of death, hell, and all opposing might; He bursts the bands of death, tramples the powers of darkness down, and lives forever.

He, my gracious surety, apprehended for payment of my debt, comes forth from the prison house of the grave free, and triumphant over sin, Satan, and death. Show me the proof that his vicarious offering is accepted, that the claims of justice are satisfied, that the devil’s scepter is shivered, that his wrongful throne is leveled.

Give me the assurance that in Christ I died, in him I rose, in his life I live, in his victory I triumph, in his ascension I shall be glorified."  - The Valley of Vision

The Watchman

My Dad served in the Navy during World War Two. After basic training, he was assigned to patrol the beaches of California at night. Japanese submarines were known to be off the coast. Consequently, diligence and alertness were required of those on Shore Patrol. One of his additional duties was to guard a checkpoint on a Naval Base in San Diego. As a Seaman second-class, he had the authority to refuse to let anyone (no matter their rank) without proper documentation through his gate. One day an officer tried to get through the checkpoint without his ID. Even though the officer threatened my Dad with court-martial, he refused to let him enter. My Father had to draw his weapon. The highly agitated officer did not want to comply with the command of his subordinate. The incident was investigated, and my Dad was fully exonerated.

Seaman second-class Sparks (who later became first-class} was later assigned to The USS Lexington aircraft carrier in the Pacific. One of his jobs on his ship was as a night watchman. And on one particular night, he saw a Bible on a table open to Isaiah chapter 21. Below are some of the verses from the chapter:

“For thus the Lord said to me:
“Go, set a watchman;
let him announce what he sees…”
 (Isaiah 21:6 ESV)

“Then he who saw cried out:
“Upon a watchtower I stand, O Lord,
continually by day,
and at my post I am stationed
whole nights.
” (Isaiah 21:8 ESV)

“…Watchman, what of the night? Watchman, what of the night?
The watchman said, The morning cometh, and also the night: if ye will enquire, enquire ye: return, come.” (Isiah 21: 11-12 KJV)

While reading the Bible, my Dad realized that he was a watchman that night.

As followers of Jesus, he calls us to “watch and pray” (Matthew 26:40.) God has given us much more spiritual authority than most of us realize. We should never let fear back us down from our assignment as prayer warriors.

“And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, but I found none.” – Ezekial 22:30

A spiritual Watchman watches out for the welfare of others through intercessory prayer. Just like a military sentry, we must remain at our post in prayer – spiritually alert on behalf of others. When a person, Church, or nation starts drifting away from God, we become vulnerable to the enemy’s attack. A Watchmen’s call is to warn those we are spiritually responsible for and to pray for revival.

God calls some to stand watch over Nations, geographical regions, cities, and Churches. We all have different assignments. But the Lord expects all of us to pray for those in positions of authority(1 Timothy 2:1-4.) Those who watch and pray sometimes receive revelation or spiritual insights before conflict arises. Such spiritually sensitive people should be accountable to elders in a local Church. It’s important to share with leadership what you believe the Lord is revealing to you. Then leave it to the elders to pray over. It’s their responsibility to accept or reject your guidance.

As we engage in intercessory prayer, we become sensitive to the Holy Spirit’s leading. And God may reveal to us the schemes of the devil (Ephesians 6:11.) I believe God gives us insight so that we can pray God’s kingdom into the situation. As a person of prayer, you can influence the culture around you – if you are diligent and refuse to give up. God is sovereign, but there are some things he will not do until we ask him ( James 4:2-3.)

Our goal is to become discerning, not suspicious. And discernment comes from time spent with God in prayer. Knowing and obeying Scripture is essential to our roles as prayer warriors. We must embrace a wartime mentality while realizing that we are at war with spiritual entities, not people. Philosophies and ideologies that contradict God’s truth are weapons that the adversary uses to destroy societies.

No matter the sphere of spiritual influence that God assigns you, know that your prayers on behalf of others will make a difference.

Prayer: Battling In The Unseen Realm

I believe in the power of prayer. Through prayer, God can either change our circumstances or teach us to trust in his goodness in any situation. I use ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ as a template for my time with God in the morning. I also use other prayers of Jesus’ in the Gospels, the Apostolic prayers, and the Psalms. These prayers can help to form our devotional time with God. They assist in shaping us into the image of Jesus.

The Apostle Paul was clear that we do not wrestle with flesh and blood – our real enemies are spiritual beings. Evil entities influence society and the personal lives of individuals (Eph. 6:12.)  It takes Holy Spirit-inspired words to do battle with evil in the spiritual realm.

Praying Holy Spirit-directed prayer – also proclaiming the gospel to the nations is vital in waging war in the unseen realm. Screaming at those we disagree with or at the devil will not give us the results we desire. Angry rants will not bring about the end of spiritual darkness. But, a life lived pursuing the presence of God in prayer can make a difference.

Those who build their lives on Scripture and prayer are entrusted with the power of God to overcome evil. Those who are determined to push back the darkness in society and religion must discover the power of prayer. Followers of Jesus need to stand for justice and to work to make our world a better place. But gaining more political influence will not change one human heart.

Intimacy with Jesus is not an option for those who desire to walk and pray in Christ’s authority. Knowing and abiding in God is our ultimate goal.

My desire is to pray in agreement with the heart of God.

1 John 5:14-15 says, “This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us-whatever we ask-we know that we have what we asked of him.”

We can battle in the unseen spiritual realm by praying in the Spirit – with all types of prayers (Eph.6:18.) And with the confidence that God will use our prayers to help establish his purposes in the earth. In this manner, therefore, pray: Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done On earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, As we forgive our debtors. And do not lead us into temptation, But deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen. – (Matthew 6: 9 – 12 NKJ)

Overcoming Evil

“Then the seventy-two returned with joy, saying, “Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name!” So he said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven.  Look, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions and on the full force of the enemy, and nothing will hurt you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names stand written in heaven.” – Luke 10:17-20 NET

Jesus has sealed his cosmic victory over the forces of evil through his death, burial, and resurrection from the dead. When demons are being cast out, the devil is cast down. Satan (the satan) is not a personal name – it’s a title. The New Testament refers to this leader of the demonic realm as the devil. He is an accuser, slanderer, and the adversary of God’s people. He seeks to obstruct, oppose, divide, and wage war on the world.

One way the devil wages war with us is with godless ideologies, that result in the persecution of believers all over the planet. His agenda is carried out through ethnic and territorial conflict. He is behind war, disease, death, and extreme poverty in this world.

The present turmoil in America is demonically inspired and led by the ancient serpent himself. The lines between good and evil in the political battle between the right and the left are sometimes blurred.

Marxism is atheistic at its core. The devil’s mission is to lead all nation’s astray and into chaos, and Carl Marx was one of his evil apostles. Excessive materialism or crony capitalism can be just as dangerous to our souls, but it is much more subtle. But freedom (even with it’s abuses) is always preferable to an Orwellian society.

While the serpent has lost the war with God over the world – we still must fight him until Christ returns. Scholars often refer to the “already and not yet of the Kingdom.” Even though the devil has been defeated – he still takes people captive to do his will. He has been dethroned but still engages in guerilla warfare on this planet. When someone turns to Christ they leave the realm of spiritual darkness that he leads to becoming children of the light – led by King Jesus.

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.” – Rev. 12:11 KJV

If you are reading this then you are being called to wage war against the fallen one and his army. But how do we fight? We overcome our ancient foe through the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony while living a surrendered life. We learn to pray and oppose evil and injustice in all its forms. We proclaim and live the gospel of the Kingdom and seek the reconciliation of people to God. We love our neighbor as ourselves and speak the truth about God’s moral and ethical commands, which can only be lived out through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Those who seek social change through destructive acts are being lead astray by the evil one. As Christians in America, we must pause and ask ourselves; are we seeking God for a spiritual solution or a political one to the turmoil we are presently in?

Let’s pray for God to change the hearts of our enemies. While we demonstrate the love of God to our neighbors.

A Prayer For Discernment - Steve Gallagher.

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION AND PRAYER

Everything that belongs to the world—what the sinful self desires, what people see and want, and everything in this world that people are so proud of—none of this comes from the Father; it all comes from the world. The world and everything in it that people desire is passing away; but those who do the will of God live forever. (I John 2:16-17 GNB)

For we are not fighting against human beings but against the wicked spiritual forces in the heavenly world, the rulers, authorities, and cosmic powers of this dark age. (Ephesians 6:12 GNB)

Lord, open the eyes of my heart that I might discern the deeper reality of the world around me. Help me to get a glimpse into the spiritual realm where these great battles are being fought out. Set me free from the love of the things this world offers. Purify, strengthen and deepen my love for You. - Steve Gallagher, Intoxicated With Babylon

Spiritual Warfare Prayer: Global Prayer Network

HOW TO PRAY UNDER DEMONIC ATTACK AND PRESSURE

How do I pray when I am under demonic attacks? Here are a number of guidelines
that we trust will be useful. Carefully study each of them and apply it to your life.
Much more can be said, but these few pointers are sufficient to lead you into
victory.

1. People often experience heaviness, darkness, despondency, confusion, and
discouragement. Too often we do not recognize it as demonic attacks. The
opposite may also be true: people start to rebuke Satan, but the main cause
is not demonic attacks. Frist and foremost you must make sure it is a
demonic attack. So often people think that the situation is because of
demonic attacks, while there are very logical explanations for it. In many
situations it is God that is dealing with us to show us some fleshly behavior,
un-brokenness, un-forgiveness, bitterness or self-pity in our lives. In every
situation it is important to ask the Holy Spirit to show you what is going on.
He alone can show us what the real situation is.

2. Satan works through feelings, but especially through relationships between
people. Many times there will be friction between people,
misunderstanding, resentment, etc. Too often however we do not recognize
the involvement of demons because all of these things look so “human”.

3. Jesus gained victory over the devil on the cross. In 1 John 3:8 we read: For
this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the
works of the devil (1 Joh.3:8). and that through death He might destroy him
who had the power of death, that is, the devil (Heb.2:14).
Confess the completed work of Jesus on the cross. Do not leave this
spiritual position of faith and trust in the cross. Equally important is to know
that through the resurrection you have the resurrection power of God in
you. Remember that the Holy Spirit lives in you. Our victory is through the
complete work on the cross and the power of His resurrection.

4. Take your stand in Ephesians 2:5-6 where we read that as Christians, we are
seated with God in Christ: made us alive together with Christ (by grace you
have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in
the heavenly places in Christ Jesus. We are in Christ: That you may know
what is the hope of His calling…and what is the exceeding greatness of His
power in us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power
which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated
Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and
power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in
this age but also in that which is to come (Ephesians 1:18-21). We are with
Christ in the heavens far above all powers.

5. Make much of praise and worship. Praise and worship ignores the devil and
focuses on God. It builds our faith. It complies with God’s command that we
must praise and worship Him. Make much of thanksgiving. Thanksgiving
brings trust, faith and hope. It helps us to see God’s constant provision and
trustworthiness. In Psalm 8:2 we read: Out of the mouth of babies and
infants you have established strength because of your foes to still the enemy
and the avenger.

6. Persevere in prayer until you gain the victory. Much too often we pray and
win a small battle, but do no pray through to complete victory. We see
something of this when Aaron and Hur were lifting the hands of Moses in
Exodus 17:12. As long as they held up the hands of Moses, there was
victory. Sometimes we come into a position of victory, but do not continue
until the enemy is fully conquered.

7. Watch and pray. Remember: eventually he will come back to attack you
again. Sometimes he will focus on the same thing, but other times he will
come from a different angle.

8. Victory does not always come in the same way. Use the sword of the Spirit,
the Word of God. Sometimes it is through Romans 6. In verse 5-6 for
instance it says: Now if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live
with Him, knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no
more. Death no longer has dominion over Him.
Other times victory may come through Revelations 12:11: They overcame
him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they
did not love their lives to the death. Or Romans 8:31-39, etc. Listen to the
Holy Spirit. He will direct you to some definite Scripture verses to pray.

9. It may be that someone cursed you or tried to put a spell on you. Make sure
there is not any known and un-confessed sin in you life. It is only when there
is definite sin in your life that Satan can get a foothold in your life. Do not
fear curses or witchcraft: Like a fluttering sparrow or a darting swallow an
undeserved curse will not land on its intended victim (Proverbs 26:2;
Numbers 23:23a). Make sure you walk in holiness before God. We are
protected against all attacks of the evil one to the extent that we walk in
holiness and are cleansed by the blood of Jesus.

10.Take His name as a place of refuge: The Name of the Lord is a strong
fortress; the godly run to him and are safe (Proverbs 18:1)

11.There is always a battle for your mind: We use God’s mighty weapons, not
worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and
to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps
people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach
them to obey Christ (2 Corinthians 10:4-5). Give attention to the words of
human reasoning, false arguments and rebellious thoughts. Satan gains
much of his victory through false and unbiblical arguments. Bring your
feelings and thoughts and ask the Holy Spirit if they are in line with the
teaching of the Scripture. His lies and false arguments always lead us into
bondage. His arguments will always lead you away from the truth and
through this he will gain spiritual victory.

12.Be careful of vague accusations. Satan will tell you that you are too unholy
to be saved and because you are sinning so often you must accept the fact
that you will always be a second class Christian and that spiritual victory is
not for you. He will come and accuse you of sin, but not of something
specific. When Satan tells us about our sin, it is always in the form of
accusations or vague and general feelings of sinfulness. The Holy Spirit
convicts of sin and never accuses. He is always very specific and will show
you a definite sin. Be careful to be introspective. Ask the Holy Spirit to show
you the things that hinders His work in you. He will show you.

13.You must resist him. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you (James 4:7).
Too often people will say: “O, I am so weak. I cannot resist him. I do not
have power to fight him.“ Remember it is not about your power. It is the
power of the Holy Spirit in you and the resurrection power of Christ that
raised you from spiritual death.

14.Lastly: you may have been involved in occult practices. Confess them,
renounce them, rebuke the evil one and ask the Holy Spirit to fill you with
His fullness. In some cases it may be important to go to someone to pray
with you.

Binding And Loosing Prayer by Tom White

"For those in need of deliverance, I advise a two-track mode of binding and loosing prayer. I ask the Spirit to make the person sick of his or her sin, to plant seeds of truth in the person's mind, and, if for an unbeliever, to stir the person to seek salvation. I also ask the Holy Spirit to silence, subdue and separate demonic influence from the person, thus allowing him/her to respond to truth. Having done this, I wait and watch for God to open doors and bring opportunity to work directly with the one in bondage." - Tom White, The Believer's Guide To Spiritual Warfare, page 202

Save Me, O My God: A Prayer From Psalm 3:1-7

A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.

Lord, how many are my foes!
Many are rising against me;
many are saying of my soul,
there is no salvation for him in God. Selah

But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head.
I cried aloud to the Lord,
and he answered me from his holy hill. Selah

I lay down and slept;
I woke again, for the Lord sustained me.
I will not be afraid of many thousands of people
who have set themselves against me all around.

Arise, O Lord!
Save me, O my God!
For you strike all my enemies on the cheek;
you break the teeth of the wicked. (Psalm 3:1-7, ESV)

God Saves Me In Battle: Psalm 55:16-19

But I call to God,
and the Lord will save me.
Evening and morning and at noon
I utter my complaint and moan,
and he hears my voice.
He redeems my soul in safety
from the battle that I wage,
for many are arrayed against me.
God will give ear and humble them,
he who is enthroned from of old, Selah
because they do not change
and do not fear God. (Psalm 55:16-19, ESV)

Hindrances To Prayer: A Quote From William Gurnall

“Satan cannot deny but that great wonders have been wrought by prayer. As the spirit of prayer goes up, so his kingdom goes down. Satan’s strategems against prayer are three. First, if he can, he will keep thee from prayer. If that be not feasible, secondly, he will strive to interrupt thee in prayer. And, thirdly, if that plot takes not, he will labour to hinder the success of thy prayer.”

Kingdom Prayer by Jack Hayford: Part 2

"Your kingdom come … on earth." - (Luke 11:2)

"We cannot leave the matter of kingdom praying without being clear about its pivotal place in the affairs of this world. Jesus’ lesson on prayer, which we call the Lord’s Prayer, not only issues a call to our worship and surrender before God’s throne—to submission. He also issues an incredible directive, an assignment that we accept a decisive role as intercessors. In short, our intervention in prayer, calling “Your kingdom come,” is that action which refuses to surrender this present world to the adversary’s devices and destruction. In World War II, artillery firepower from giant guns situated miles away was directed by advance “spotters.” These military personnel were in a position to see the target, then to radio the position where needed firepower could be directed to destroy the enemy’s encampments. This is the same as Jesus’ assignment that we pray, “Father, Your kingdom come on earth.” It is our Savior’s way of saying, “Just as you have welcomed the Father’s rule in your hearts, now extend that kingdom rule in prayer.” Point to earth’s needy places and invite heaven’s forces to break hell’s strongholds and bring hearts, homes and nations into His freedom."

Psalm 69:13-18: Deliver Me!

But as for me, my prayer is to you, O LORD.
At an acceptable time, O God,
in the abundance of your steadfast love answer me in your saving faithfulness.
Deliver me
from sinking in the mire;
let me be delivered from my enemies
and from the deep waters.
Let not the flood sweep over me,
or the deep swallow me up,
or the pit close its mouth over me.
Answer me, O LORD, for your steadfast love is good;
according to your abundant mercy, turn to me.
Hide not your face from your servant;
for I am in distress; make haste to answer me.
Draw near to my soul, redeem me;
ransom me because of my enemies!
(Psalm 69:13-18 ESV)

Psalm 25:16-22 : The Troubled Heart

Turn to me and be gracious to me,
for I am lonely and afflicted.
The troubles of my heart are enlarged;
bring me out of my distresses.
Consider my affliction and my trouble,
and forgive all my sins.
Consider how many are my foes,
and with what violent hatred they hate me.
Oh, guard my soul, and deliver me!
Let me not be put to shame, for I take refuge in you.
May integrity and uprightness preserve me,
for I wait for you.
Redeem Israel, O God,
out of all his troubles.
(Psalm 25:16-22 ESV)

Pray For God's Grace To Fortify You Against Everything Evil: Matthew Henry

I must pray for the grace of God, and all the kind and powerful influences and operations of that grace.

I draw near to the throne of grace, that I may receive not only mercy to pardon, but grace to help in every time of need: Hebrews 4:16(ESV) grace for seasonable help.

From the fullness that is in Jesus Christ (in whom all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell), Colossians 1:19(ESV) let me receive, grace upon grace. John 1:16(ESV)

4.1

I must pray for grace to fortify myself against every evil thought, word, and work. Having been earnest for the removing of the guilt of sin, that I may not die for it as a crime, I must be no less earnest for the breaking of the power of sin, that I may not die by it as a disease, but that it may be mortified in me.

O let no sin have dominion over me, because I am not under law but under grace. Romans 6:14(ESV)

Let the flesh be crucified in me, with its passions and desires; Galatians 5:24(ESV) that walking in the Spirit, I may not gratify the desires of the flesh. Galatians 5:16(ESV)

Let my old self be crucified with Christ that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that I may no longer be enslaved to sin. Romans 6:6(ESV) And let not sin reign in my mortal body (in my immortal soul), to make me obey its passions, Romans 6:12(ESV) but having been set free from sin, let me become a slave of righteousness. Romans 6:18(ESV)

Let the law of the Spirit of life set me free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2(ESV)

Give me grace to put off my old self, which is corrupt through deceitful desires, Ephesians 4:22(ESV) and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 4:24(ESV)

Let the world be crucified to me, and I to the world, by the cross of Christ. Galatians 6:14(ESV)

An Excerpt From St. Patrick's Breastplate Prayer

I arise today
Through God's strength to pilot me:
God's might to uphold me,
God's wisdom to guide me,
God's eye to look before me,
God's ear to hear me,
God's word to speak for me,
God's hand to guard me,
God's way to lie before me,
God's shield to protect me,
God's host to save me
From snares of demons,
From temptations of vices,
From everyone who shall wish me ill,
Afar and anear,
Alone and in multitude.

I summon today all these powers between me and those evils,
Against every cruel merciless power that may oppose my body and soul,
Against incantations of false prophets,
Against black laws of pagandom
Against false laws of heretics,
Against craft of idolatry,
Against spells of witches and smiths and wizards,
Against every knowledge that corrupts man's body and soul.

Christ to shield me today
Against poison, against burning,
Against drowning, against wounding,
So that there may come to me abundance of reward.
Christ with me, Christ before me, Christ behind me,
Christ in me, Christ beneath me, Christ above me,
Christ on my right, Christ on my left,
Christ when I lie down, Christ when I sit down, Christ when I arise,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone who speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.

I arise today
Through a mighty strength, the invocation of the Trinity,
Through belief in the threeness,
Through confession of the oneness,
Of the Creator of Creation.

Pslam 91 (E.S.V.)

1 He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High
will abide in the shadow of the Almighty.
2 I will say [1] to the Lord, “My refuge and my fortress,
my God, in whom I trust.”

3 For he will deliver you from the snare of the fowler
and from the deadly pestilence.
4 He will cover you with his pinions,
and under his wings you will find refuge;
his faithfulness is a shield and buckler.
5 You will not fear the terror of the night,
nor the arrow that flies by day,
6 nor the pestilence that stalks in darkness,
nor the destruction that wastes at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side,
ten thousand at your right hand,
but it will not come near you.
8 You will only look with your eyes
and see the recompense of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the Lord your dwelling place—
the Most High, who is my refuge [2]—
10 no evil shall be allowed to befall you,
no plague come near your tent.

11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways.
12 On their hands they will bear you up,
lest you strike your foot against a stone.
13 You will tread on the lion and the adder;
the young lion and the serpent you will trample underfoot.

14 “Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him;
I will protect him, because he knows my name.
15 When he calls to me, I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble;
I will rescue him and honor him.
16 With long life I will satisfy him
and show him my salvation.”
